Dr. David Nahamoo is a Phronesis Executive Senior Advisor, the Founder and CEO of Aisle23, and the lead for the AI, QuantumComputing and digital transformation center of excellence within Phronesis Group. David has been an AI research scientist for almosthalf a century. Prior to founding Aisle23, David was the Chief Scientist and CTO of Pryon, leading the development of the industry’smost accurate AI RAG platform that delivers state-of-the-art accuracy, highest cloud security, optimized footprint and cost of inferencefor language and visual AI processing. Under his leadership, David’s team at Pryon was working on next generation AI technologies foradvanced reasoning and problem solving for future Pryon products. David retired from Pryon, as the first Pryon Fellow, at the end ofNovember 2024.
Dr. David Nahamoo is a pioneer in AI, shaping the future of intelligent systems through innovation and research. His work has laid the foundation for modern speech and conversational technologies worldwide.
Prior to joining Pryon in Feb of 2018, David spent 35 years at IBM Research where he designed and developed first generation machinelearning AI techniques to improve speech recognition, natural language processing and conversational systems. As a senior memberof the IBM Academy of Technology, David reached the distinction of IBM Fellow and Global Head of human language technologies,speech CTO, and Chief Scientist for Conversational Systems. During his tenure at IBM Research, David led award-winning teams forthree decades; delivering more than 10 IBM Speech products that led the industry during the 1990s-2010s.
David holds more than 100 patents and has published more than 100 papers in AI. David’s patents were a significant part of the IBMpatents that resulted in one of the largest IBM software licensing deals, generating significant global revenue. In addition, theinnovation by the IBM Speech Team that David led, paved the way for speech products by companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple(Siri), and Amazon’s (Alexa) commercial products respectively. Customized versions of these IBM AI technologies have also beendelivered to the US military and Intelligence Agencies as well as being critical and foundational components for Watson AI productsand the famous IBM Jeopardy System.
David is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Fellow of International Speech CommunicationAssociation (ISCA). In 2009, David and his team received the IEEE Corporate Innovation Recognition Award for “long-termcommitment to pioneering research and innovative development in speech recognition.” In 2017, David received the Purdue UniversityElectrical & Computer Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award. In 2021, David received the IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and AudioProcessing Award, “For contributions to and leadership in research and deployment of spoken language technologies.”
