John is a Managing Director with Phronesis and contributes his leadership in our program(s) management office. He has proven leadership and delivery skills developed through executive management roles and numerous client successes, including Chief Financial Officer for a $140 million organization, Partner for a global consulting firm, and leader of many multi-year, multi-million dollar projects, programs, and transformation initiatives. He has deep experience driving complex, multi-threaded change across global business vertical sectors, including media and entertainment, education, financial services, consumer packaged goods
John is a seasoned leader known for delivering complex transformation programs with precision and impact. His ability to align strategy, governance, and execution makes him a trusted partner to organizations navigating change.
John has successfully helped numerous global organizations through complex growth and change initiatives. From establishing governance frameworks, through setting up and managing enterprise PMO functions, to coordinating with workstream leaders and informing executive leadership, he has sat in every seat at the transformation table. In the Life Science sector, he has helped multiple global pharmaceutical companies to spin off divisions, stand up new organizations, merge with peers, rationalize their real estate portfolios, and establish new processes and controls. In the Media & Entertainment sector, he has been involved with global divestitures, as well as broader program and process re-design across Finance, IT, HR, Marketing, Procurement, and Content Creation divisions. In the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) space, he served as change / communications leader for a digital social media transformation project, helping to set up protocols for their Global Social Hub. And in the public and not-for-profit sectors, he has worked with leadership to manage their enterprise risk through establishing and running internal audit functions.
John started his career at KPMG LLP and BearingPoint, where he was involved with delivering excellent service and support to clients across multiple industries. He conducted audits and compliance assessments, led process re-engineering initiatives, and defined requirements for system implementation projects. He then worked as a Partner at Smart & Associates, a national consulting firm, where he led the Midwest team focused on healthcare, higher education, government, and not-for-profit sectors. He also worked as a Principal / Senior Director at The Hackett Group and North Highland, where he was involved in enterprise performance management, CFO Advisory services, software selection, and broad functional assessments. At Phronesis, he was the project manager on development of a Middle East business strategy for a large CPG company, where he help develop “size of prize” projections for future growth.
John has Master’s degrees in Public Policy Analysis (University of Chicago) and Education (Loyola University), has certifications in change management (Prosci) and government auditing (IIA), and has recently completed training for his Six Sigma Green Belt. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, travelling, and when time permits, writing screenplays.
